CONSTRUCTIONGROUNDBREAKING SUNDAY Groundbreaking was celebrated Sunday June 28, 2009 for our $1.7 million facility expansion and remodel. The congregation brought shovels, hardhats were issued, and all were encouraged to “turn ground” inside the spray painted outline of the new building. John Moody led the congregation in the dedication, along with Bill Foster, Building Committee Chair, and John Brosey, Fund Raising Chair. The party continued outdoors with refreshments. The Building Committee has worked tirelessly with Carlson Veit Architects PC, and CD Redding Construction to design and plan for this day. Building fund contributions from pledges and a $1.3 million loan from the Synod of the Pacific will finance the project which is expected to be completed in March, 2010. The building addition includes a new multi-purpose room, kitchen, handicap restroom, and enlarged narthex. The project also includes the addition of an elevator to the two-story education wing, renovation of two older kitchens into classrooms, and downstairs fellowship hall renovation. The entire building will have enhanced fire protection with the installation of a sprinkler system. Project planning and design have utilized environmental friendly options to the extent the budget would allow. The current project aims to improve access through the addition of an elevator, handicap restroom, and enhanced handicap parking. The narthex area expansion will include new lighting and a wall of windows. The multipurpose room has been designed to provide indoor play space for children’s games and activities as well as large meeting room space or meal service. The multipurpose room will have many windows with views to the trees. An outer door on the south end of the multipurpose room will open to the wooded area where a future patio space could be developed. The adjacent kitchen has been designed to include two freestanding ranges with ovens, two wall ovens, two refrigerators and a freezer, separate kitchen storage room, plumbed-in coffee maker, commercial dishwasher, and a large central island for work space.
This project is part of a long
range plan to develop the site in stages as program needs change.
Planning began as far back as the 2001 when a formal Vision
Committee Report recommended facility expansion and remodel to
accommodate future program and staff needs. The long range plan
provides future site placement for additional office space,
sanctuary expansion, and an education wing. The last major
construction project was in 1986 when the sanctuary and office wing
was added. CHECK OUT THE CONSTRUCTION PHOTOS CLICK HERE! Construction Week 23 General Notes: The new entry doors have been installed. With completion of the walks and the new parking area striped, the approach to the church was much improved for the special Cantata Sunday. Additionally, a concrete base is being prepared for the new location of the cross, that has been cut down to better fit the new location and to remove some of the damaged and weathered wood. Last Week’s Activities: Drywall taping and texturing continued, along with sheetrock repairs. The sidewalks were completed and the parking area striped. The new storefront doors were installed. The addition is being prepared for the interior painting, which is to start as soon as taping and texture is complete. Additionally, PGE has extended the new electrical service to the building. This Week’s Activities: Exterior painting, if not too cold, will be completed. Work on the casework (cabinets) may start toward the end of the week, along with installation of doors, and installation of the special fiberglass reinforced panels that will be behind the kitchen counters. The elevator installation, fire sprinklers, and sheet rock repair continues. Approximate Percentage Completion: 79% Estimated Completion Date: Mid-February 2010 Cash Received Against Building Fund Pledges: $393,000
