“Summoned By God" (Jeremiah 31: 31-34) – Sandra Herring M Div
What was it like for the great prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures to
feel compelled to break the silence of complacency; a willingness to
confront issues of faithfulness, responsibility and hope for the
future? Jeremiah stands out as an example of provocation, but
also hope. Jeremiah was a radical critic of his time in the
face of the threatening judgment of God. But, more importantly, he
also saw and proclaimed the expectation of a peaceful Reign of God
on this earth among nations. Sandra will address: 1)the
tension between what Jeremiah was given to know and the Divine Will,
and 2)how Jeremiah came to know and feel the hope-filled vitality of
God present and known.
