Ground-breaking was celebrated Sunday June 28, 2009, for our $1.7 million facility expansion and remodel. The congregation brought shovels, hardhats were issued, and all were encouraged to "turn ground". John Moody led the congregation in the dedication, along with Bill Foster, Building Committee Chair, and John Brosy, Fund Raising Chair. The party continued outdoors with refreshments. The Building Committee has worked tirelessly with Carlson Veit Architects PC, and CD Redding Construction to design and plan for this day. Building fund contributions from pledges and a $1.3 million loan from the Synod of the Pacific financed the project. The building addition includes a new multi-purpose room, kitchen, handicap restroom, and enlarged narthex. The project also includes the addition of an elevator to the two-story education wing, renovation of two older kitchens into classrooms, and downstairs fellowship hall renovation. The entire building has enhanced fire protection with the installation of a sprinkler system. Project planning and design have utilized environmental friendly options to the extent the budget would allow. The narthex area expansion includes new lighting and a wall of windows. The multipurpose room has been designed to provide indoor play space for children’s activities as well as large meeting room space or meal service. An outer door on the south end of the multipurpose room opens to the wooded area where a future patio space could be developed. The adjacent kitchen includes two freestanding ranges with ovens, two wall ovens, two refrigerators and a freezer, separate kitchen storage room, plumbed-in coffee maker, commercial dishwasher, and a large central island for work space. This project is part of a long range plan to develop the site in stages as program needs change. Planning began in 2001 when a formal Vision Committee Report recommended a facility expansion and remodel to accommodate future program and staff needs. The long range plan provides for additional office space, sanctuary expansion, and an education wing.
